AN iconic railway station in Inverclyde has been given a national platform as it makes an appearance in a new BBC Scotland TV comedy series.
Dinosaur, which is written by Matilda Curtis and Ashley Storrie, is a six-part series set and filmed in and around Glasgow, with Wemyss Bay Station one of the places playing a starring role.
The show follows Storrie’s character Nina, an autistic woman in her 30s who adores her life living with sister and best friend Evie.
Nina is forced to grapple with new challenges when she is asked to be Evie’s maid of honour after she becomes engaged to a man she has known for only six weeks.
Dinosaur - described as a coming of age series exploring sisterhood, friendship and romance - also stars Still Game's Greg Hemphill and Sanjeev Kohli, as well as River City actress Sally Howitt.
Wemyss Bay station appears in episode four, which sees Nina and Evie take a trip to Rothesay for the hen do.
Scenes were shot at the ferry terminal's waiting area, as well as on board MV Bute.
A spokesperson for the Friends of Wemyss Bay Station said: “We were happy, and surprised, to see Wemyss Bay pier pop up whilst watching Dinosaur.
“Whilst we have been getting used to film crews around the station in recent years for films and adverts, we didn't know about this one.
“It is always lovely to see the station and pier on the screen.”
The station has been a popular spot for filming in recent years.
Sky Cinema filmed scenes for its original action thriller Dead Shot in Wemyss Bay in 2022, with mobile phone firm Vodafone using the picturesque location for its Christmas advert fronted by Martin Freeman in 2017.
The station also made its way on to TV screens earlier this year as part of ScotRail’s new advertising campaign.
All episodes of Dinosaur are available now at bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
