EXCITEMENT is building for the opening of Gourock's iconic outdoor pool ahead of its launch this afternoon. 

Scores of locals are expected to take part in the annual 'jump in' event at the pool, which is being held at 4pm this afternoon. 

The popular local landmark's 2023 season was another huge success, with the already famous lido gaining international exposure after being featured on the cover of Blur's latest album.

Pool manager Marc McFarlane told the Tele in March that they were expecting a big season as the pool celebrated its 115th year. 

He said at the time: "We are hoping to build upon last year’s success. The pool received a lot of national exposure from Blur using Gourock Pool as the front cover of their album.

"Television crews were down to do live broadcasts and we noticed a significant increase in visitors coming from all across the country to use our magnificent pool.”

The pool's packed calendar for 2024 includes the return of the ever-popular Starlight Swims, the Inverclyde Leisure Triathlon and the Doggy Day Swim at the end of the season.
