THE skies over Inverclyde were lit up in stunning style at the weekend by the Northern Lights - with members of the Tele's camera club on hand to capture spectacular snaps of the phenomenon.

The district was one of many areas across the UK and Europe where the bands of pink and green light could be seen after an “extreme” geomagnetic storm caused them to be more visible, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

A large crowd of local gathered at Greenock's Lyle Hill on Friday night to try and catch a glimpse of the incredible light show, with Cloch Road also used as a vantage point.

Below are a few of the pictures that Telegraph's Camera Club members captured on the night.
