AS our pictures from this year's Gourock Highland Games show, the event was a resounding success in the face of highly unstable weather and a downpour at the end of the day. Here are some shots of this very popular event from years gone by.
Pic1: This shot shows young members of Gourock and Port Glasgow Hwa-Rang-Do team making some lively moves for the Tele camera. They put on a demonstration of their martial arts skills for the public at the Gourock Highland Games held in 1998.
Pic2: A dreich day ended with the traditional march-past of the massed pipe bands in Gourock Park, bringing the games of 1997 to a damp conclusion.
Pic3: Siren, star of the popular TV grappling show Gladiators, took the strain against pupils of St Patrick's Primary School tug-of-war team.
Pic4: As athletes battled with hammer and caber in the background, youngsters of the May Hughes School of Dancing struck a pose for our Telegraph picture spread on the games of 1999.
Pic5: Our first coverage of the Gourock Highland Games in full colour came at the turn of the century.
It included this shot of dancers taking part in the Highland Dance competition.
