LITTLE ones had an outdoors adventure at Glenbrae Children’s Centre as part of an exciting ‘stay and play’ programme.

The Greenock nursery held several ‘dinky diggers’ sessions which were run by staff from the Belville Community Garden and gave the youngsters the chance to enjoy fun in the fresh air with their parents.

The pre-schoolers made s’mores, went bug hunting, played outdoors games and spent quality time with their mums and dads.

Craig said: “It works with everything that we’re trying to do, it’s got outdoor play, it’s about utilising the environment and learning about nature.

“There are real benefits for the children’s physical health and wellbeing.

“It’s great to have the parents in and give them ideas for activities and experiences they can do and share with their children which are really low cost."

Don Thomas, environmental officer at Belville Community Garden, added: “The ethos behind this is that the interactions between the parents and the kids are what’s most important.

“Often the quality time that they have is few and far between, they might be busy at the weekend or working or dealing with other siblings.

“Having Dinky Diggers at the nursery provides an opportunity for that one-on-one time with the parents and their kids for outdoor stay and play.

“We’re trying to foster a sense of adventure and creativity. Often it’s the kids who are coming up with the ideas themselves so it’s not a set programme where they need to do this or that."
