SEAFARERS and yachting fans in Inverkip raised £4,000 for a national charity as a prelude to a popular annual event.

A fundraiser celebrating 200 years of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) was held at Kip Marina the night before this year's Kip Regatta kicked off.

Attendees generated the amazing amount of money at the event in preparation for the races starting on May 11.

Bosses at Kip Marina says the fundraiser was a 'triumphant success'.

Greenock Telegraph:
This year's Kip Regatta saw around 40 vessels competing over the weekend.

Teams of seafarers took to the waves to in their boats in a series of races which ran across both Saturday and Sunday.

Assistant marina master Dan Mellor said the races were 'expertly managed' by the Royal Western Yacht Club.

Dan said the whole regatta was a great success.

He added: "There were some closely fought contests over the weekend.

"All competitors had a fantastic time out on the water in what were some tough conditions on the day."

Alongside the action on the waves, the Marina's chartroom and chandlery were also full of activities and events.

Representatives from marine businesses were on-hand to provide information about their service, and visitors were able to find out more about the marina itself.
