PEOPLE from all over Inverclyde gathered at a church in Greenock to mark an important national fundraising event.

Lyle Kirk hosted a special afternoon tea to raise funds for Christian Aid. The tea was arranged as part of Christian Aid Week.

Members of church communities from across the district flocked to the venue for an event that was full of great chat, amazing home baking and generous donations.

Greenock Telegraph:
More than 60 people attended the event and tucked into cakes which were presented on traditional stands, and lots of cups of tea and coffee were served in fine china.

Lyle Kirk's minister Reverend Jonathan Fleming chatted who everyone who attended and said the event was a great success.

He said: "It was very well-attended. There was an incredible amount of home baking which everyone really enjoyed, and it was great to see everyone getting together for such a good cause.

"We hold regular coffee mornings and we decided to do something a bit different this year for Christian Aid week. It was certainly enjoyed by everyone who was there."

Reverend Fleming says the final total raised has not been calculated yet as all of the donation envelopes have still to be collected. There will be a total for Lyle Kirk and an overall total for Inverclyde.

He added: "Churches across Inverclyde support the event every year, and it was great to see so many members of different churches together at this event.

"I want to thank everyone in our outreach committee who organised everything and helped bring it all together, all of our volunteers, and everyone who took time to create some wonderful home baking for a very worthwhile cause."
