WEST Scotland MSP Jamie Greene has praised the work of Kilmacolm charity The Haven.

Mr Greene spoke out after reading Craig MacKenzie's story in the Tele last week, where he bravely told how the charity had helped him out of addiction.

The Conservative MSP says he visited the rehabilitation service in Kilmacolm three weeks ago and had been shown around the centre by Craig.

He said he found the visit, and particularly his time with Craig, 'inspiring and humbling'.

Greenock Telegraph:
Since the visit, Mr Greene and his team have been working on drugs policy and met with minister for drugs and alcohol policy Christina McKelvie last week.

The MSP added said: "I visited The Haven a few weeks ago and had the great pleasure of being shown round the centre by Craig.

"His kindness and his determination to help people who were going through some of the toughest times of their lives was simply awe inspiring.

"It is a testament not only to the brilliant work that The Haven and its staff do, but mainly to Craig and the many others like him who have beaten the odds and decided to use their experience to help others.

"I hope that Craig's story serves as a beacon of light to anyone struggling with addiction or substance abuse, and I urge anyone in that position to seek the help they need."
