UNPAID carers are set to be celebrated with a series of events.

A range of activities are being offered between June 10 and 14 to support young, young adult and adult carers, providing a much-needed break and will highlight their challenges and contributions.

The events are being organised by the Carers Gateway Inverclyde, a new service for unpaid carers that launched on May 1.

Adult carers will be able to access the full range of support services provided by the Carers Gateway at a series of informal Carers chatty cafe drop-in events throughout the week.

The Carers Gateway will also be holding sound bath relaxation sessions and a tea dance, as well as a cold-water dip at Lunderston Bay followed by a sauna.

Young carers will benefit from drop-in sessions at local schools and a special cinema screening for both the young carers and their families to enjoy.

Their week of activities will culminate in a “silent” disco event.

An evening social and a cinema screening will be staged to support young adult carers aged between 18 and 25.

Partnership working with a range of local organisations and service providers is central to the Gateway delivery model and local stakeholders will be invited to attend the formal launch the Carers Gateway Inverclyde at Greenock Town Hall on Friday June 14.

Fraser Bedwell, Chief Executive of Unity, the charity that runs the Carers Gateway Inverclyde, said: “Carers week is an opportunity to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout Inverclyde.

“Having a spread of events across the local area underlines the Gateway’s community-focused approach, taking the service to wherever unpaid carers are”.
