PLANS to install a large solar panel array on the grounds of a Port Glasgow country estate have been approved

A proposal to install a 150kw array across an area of Finlaystone Estate has been given the go-ahead by Inverclyde Council.

The application states that the panels will be set up in three tiers of around 50 metres and be surrounded by a fence.

It adds that the new panels would supply green energy to Finlaystone.

The proposed site for the array is 200 metres from an existing substation in a low-grade field which is said to be not visible from any house or ‘formal part’ of the estate.

The land is currently classed as rough grazing which is predominately covered in bracken.

Technical documents submitted alongside the application state that the panels will be ground mounted and angled to catch the sun.
