A PETITION to save a Gourock scrapyard which is facing closure after Inverclyde Council officials ordered its bosses to leave their current site has attracted almost 2,000 signatures.

Gourock Waste Metals’ owners Nicholas and Hans Stetz were left stunned earlier this month when they found out their lease with the local authority would not be renewed this September.

The pair believe the decision will spell the end for their business, which has served Gourock for more than six decades, due to the huge expenses which would be associated with finding a new site.

A petition they launched in the aftermath of the decision, which urged council bosses to re-consider the move, has now attracted 1,964 signatures and looks set to hit the 2,000 mark by the end of the week.
