THE first phase of essential overnight resurfacing works on the A8 in Greenock is set to get underway tomorrow.

A closure will be in place on the westbound carriageway between Glen Roundabout and Gibshill Road between 8pm and 6am nightly until June 6.

There will also be a single lane closure on the eastbound carriageway during the overnight works.

Amey, which manages Scotland’s trunk road network, says traffic management will be removed by 6am on June 7.

A diversion will be in place during the closure, with traffic being directed to join Brown Street at Glen Roundabout.

Drivers should then follow Balfour Street, Glen Avenue, Lilybank Road, Birkmyre Avenue, Farquhar Road, Mitchell Street, Lansbury Avenue and Gibshill Road to rejoin the A8.

Phase two of the works – due to take place between June 7 and 12 – will involve an overnight closure of the westbound carriageway between Gibshill Road and Ratho Street.
