A CAR plunged from a road onto a rocky beach just yards from the River Clyde in Gourock this morning in an incident that sparked an emergency response from the coastguard.

Police and paramedics were also at the scene off Cloch Road, near McInroy's Point, after initial alarm was raised at around 7.45am.

Coastguard confirmed that a man was extracted from the car by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

The road was closed to drivers while emergency services personnel were on scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.46am on Wednesday, June 5, to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Cloch Road in Gourock, where one vehicle had left the road and was located on the beach.

“Operations control mobilised two appliances to the scene and one casualty was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews left the scene around 9.20am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
