STAFF and pupils at a Greenock primary school got a surprise this morning when a furry friend popped in for breakfast.

A cheeky ferret joined pupils at St Andrew's Primary’s breakfast club after finding its way into the school.

Staff were able to catch the friendly creature and are now looking to reunite it with its owner.

Dawn White, who helps run the school breakfast club, told the Tele she was stunned when the ferret scampered in.

She said: “Corriene, the other breakfast lady, opened the door and saw this wee thing sitting there.

“She thought it was just a wee ornament at first but then it moved.

“She shouted on me and Gary the cook, it was just scrambling about the place.

“It was quite friendly, sniffing about everything and was in and out the tables.

“It’s so cute looking.

“We had to find a wee box to put it in and we’re going to try and find its owners because I think must be a pet, it’s so friendly.”

Head teacher Alan Connick said that while the ferret’s impromptu visit had been exciting for the school, they were keen to find the small animal’s owner.

He added: “If anyone recognises the ferret just get in touch with the school on the school phone number.

“It’s been a busy morning for us, primary seven are going out, the new primary ones are coming in and we’ve had a ferret coming in as well. It’s the place to be, everyone loves St Andrew's!”
