THE team at a fast food restaurant in Greenock have donated £8,000 to a seafaring organisation which helps young people discover their potential.

McDonald's in Greenock has handed over the amazing cash boost to Ocean Youth Trust.

The donation was made through the McDonald's in the Community Foundation which gathers money raised by the 10p carrier bag charge and distributes it to good causes across Scotland.

The team at Ocean Youth Trust provide young people with sail training and help them develop their knowledge and skills in activities out on the water.

Ocean Youth Trust CEO Hazel Wiseman said the funds will help the organisation continue its vital work.

She added: "As a local charity, we are delighted to have received support from McDonald’s in Greenock towards our 2024 programme of residential youth work voyages.

"This donation will provide a vital cash injection into our work and will allow us to support disadvantaged young people across Scotland through the life-changing experiences of youth work on the waves."

McDonald’s franchisee Alan Halliday owns and operates the Greenock restaurant.

He said: "Supporting the wellbeing of our community is something my team and I feel particularly committed to, and our recent donation to Ocean Youth Trust is a testament to this commitment.

"The work Ocean Youth Trust does is unique and provides a different way for young people to interact while developing vital life skills.

"Providing chances for people to achieve accredited qualifications is important and it's something that aligns with the opportunities we provide here at McDonald's.

"We look forward to building this partnership in the future."
