The people of Inverclyde have spoken on their favourite fish and chip shops in the area.

The responses gathered on Facebook have provided some interesting insights into the community's preferred 'chippies.'

The clear stand-outs were Louis in Port Glasgow, Mamma Francos, and Ronnie's Chip Shop.

As part of the celebration of National Fish and Chip Day on June 6, Greenock Telegraph readers were given the opportunity to sing the praises of their beloved fish and chip shops.

An assortment of comments flowed in with one from Laura Heaney, an American reader from Raleigh, North Carolina, stating: "Even us Yanks know it’s Louis Port-Glasgow."

The comments were filled with passion and nostalgia as readers reminisced about their favourite local chippy spots. Agnes Steel-Howard expressed her preference, saying: "Louis in the Port," and echoed by Alan Carnegie, who declared: "Louis by a mile!"

Praise was also given to Mamma Francos. Bernadette Carswell simply stated: "Mamma Franco the best," while Alan Marshall added: "Mamma Franca in Gourock."

But there was another standout, Ronnie's Chip Shop also received numerous nods of approval. Lynda Kerr singled out: "Ronnies Barnhill st", while Shaz Scott showered them with compliments, saying: "Ronnie’s Chip Shop, amazing staff and amazing food and goodies."

As the online chatter and feedback continued, a few readers, like Fiona McIver-Wilson, noticed the surprising split in preference, commenting: "It’s split like 50/50, Louis and Mamma Franca!"

Regardless of the divided opinions, one thing that everyone agreed on is the significance of fish and chip shops in their community.
