A PORT Glasgow hair salon has achieved a 'glam treble' at the UK Hair and Beauty Awards.

Amethyst was named among the country's top parlours in two categories - and owner Nicola Cox received a special recognition gong.

Nicola's talented King Street team placed a brilliant 12th in the best salon section and were named 48th in the UK in the best colour category at the awards in Birmingham.

The success follows on from their debut last year and is the second year in a row the Port Glasgow shop has won awards at the prestigious event.

Hair stylist Nicola, who has owned the town centre salon for 16 years, said: "To finish in the top 50 in the whole country means a lot, and to be at the finals two years in a row as well is fantastic.

"I have to thank all the girls who work here. We are all more than a team, we are a family. We all help each other and we have our ups and downs.

"It was just fantastic to be there in the room and then to get the recognition. But I think for us all what we love more than anything is having our clients coming in and leaving feeling so much better about themselves.

"They are our family as well, we get to know all about their lives. We are part of their lives and they are part of ours."

Nicola was joined at the awards by her sister Stephanie Alexander and stylist Christine Russell.

Beauty therapist Stephanie said: "It was amazing to be there.

"It was a special night. We get to be part of our clients biggest days, their weddings, we have proms and communions. "

Christine added: "It was an amazing experience to go there on the red carpet and be all glammed up.

"It is a great achievement for the salon."

Nicola thanked the rest of her award winning team Julianna Morrell, hair stylist, Lisa Mathieson, hair stylist, Carrie Alexander, hair stylist, Caitlyn Kellly Robertson, nail technician, and Coragh Wilson.
