AN ARREST warrant has been issued for a ten-charges Greenock abduction and assault accused who is alleged to have compressed a woman's neck.

Michael Ryan - who is said to have detained a woman against her will at a flat in the town - failed to appear for a court for a hearing regarding the indictment case.

Prosecutors say he seized the alleged victim by her legs and dragged her into the property and forcibly kept her there.

Ryan, 33, is charged with assaulting the woman to her injury by compressing her neck and butting her on the head, as well as kicking and punching her on the head and body as she lay on the floor.

Ryan, of St Lawrence Street, is said to have committed the alleged offences on January 24 last year while subject to a non-harassment order forbidding him from approaching or contacting the woman.

In addition to the alleged abduction, Ryan faces several charges concerning events which prosecutors say took place in July 2022.

He is accused of breaking into a property in Gourock and stealing a car key on July 9, 2022, before allegedly taking a Mercedes-Benz A180 from the address.

It is claimed he failed to stop the same vehicle when requested to do so by a uniformed police officer on Glengallan Road in Oban two days later.

He is further charged with driving the car dangerously on the town’s Glengallan Road, Soroba Road, Combie Street and Argyle Street by driving on the wrong side of the road, forcing oncoming vehicles to take evasive action.

The Crown says Ryan also overtook a vehicle while on a zebra crossing, and collided with another vehicle whilst driving at a high speed.

He was due to attend Greenock Sheriff Court for a first diet hearing to face a total of ten indictment charges this week, but he was not present.

Defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher told Sheriff James Varney that his client had been written to at his last known address following service of the indictment.

Sheriff Varney granted a warrant for Ryan's arrest.
