Young British talent Hannah Klugman was rendered speechless after wowing the Wimbledon Qualifying crowds with a statement second-round victory in Roehampton.

The Wimbledon native, who grew up a stone’s throw from the All England Lawn Tennis Club, pushed past top 150 player Linda Fruhvirtova to romp to victory on the grass courts.

The 15-year-old, who has recently finished secondary school, won 6-2 0-6 6-4 in front of a packed-out Court 1 to leave her on the brink of the main draw.

She said: “I’m not sure what just happened, I’m speechless, let’s just forget the second set.

“It was such a good match, Linda Fruhvirtova is such a great player and I’ve watched her in the juniors when I was younger.

“I’m so emotional, I said I don’t think I’d ever cry on court.

“Usually at tournaments you’re away but having family around me here was really nice.

“It’s a home crowd so it’s pretty special, all the support for me is definitely an advantage and you want to win as well for them, not just for yourself.

“They pushed me and gave me energy.”

Klugman is on the LTA’s Pro Scholarship Programme presented by Lexus, the highest level of support for developing players aged 16-24, designed to help them crack the Top 100.

She faces another player of similar ranking in Alycia Parks on Thursday and knows that she will fulfil a lifelong Wimbledon dream if she can overcome the American.

She said: “I’m still in a bit of shock, but I’m proud of myself today to get through it, it’s tough to get over the line.

“Just mentally, I’ve matured a lot more and pushed myself, being a better person, my game is definitely evolving and I’m happy about that.

“There are times which you won't do amazing so I’m just figuring it out, because I’m still young so I’m learning along the way but I’m enjoying it.

“I’ll prepare exactly the same as last night, nothing different, every match is the same, I prepare for it in the same way.”
