A LITTLE girl got a big surprise when she went down to her local store the other day.

Rosie Magee, five, won a teddy in a raffle to raise funds for Skelmorlie Community Garden.

Big-hearted Charles McCready donated the teddy after he won it in raffle held by the local masonic lodge.

Charles, a customer at the Skelmorlie Village Store, handed the teddy into the shop and they raffled it on his behalf.

He said: "They already have a tin in the store to raise funds for the garden.

"I was happy to do my bit to help the local community. We raised £60.

"I think Nicola and Frank Have done a great job with the shop and also keeping a Post Office going in the community.

"They have really pulled the village up by its bootlaces to make it vibrant."

Kenny Stewart, a member of the garden group, said: "We are grateful to Charles and to all the local people who have made donations."
