Beautiful bride Jill was fashionably late, and had the groom in tears, as she walked down the aisle.

Michael, 26, who teaches at a high school in Clydebank, said: "We both had a fantastic day, from start to finish. I was a bit emotional when I saw Jill.

"The mix of the music and then seeing her was just amazing, I was in floods of tears."

The couple, former St Stephen's High School pupils, celebrated their special day with hundreds of guests, several choirs - and a papal blessing into the bargain.

Around 200 people flocked to the church to see Jill and Michael exchange their vows.

Jill, 27, a physiotherapist at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, said: "It was the most amazing day and on the day everything worked out as we'd planned it."

Parish priest Matthew Carlin was joined by Father Eoin Patten at the wedding.

Father Patten quipped: "It's an intimate affair with a few hundred people and four choirs."

He added: "This day was always going to come, they came from the same town, went to the same school, it was in God's plan that these two people would be together."

As well as choirs they had acclaimed musical director John Pitcathley on the organ and a two-man brass section.

Meanwhile, courtesy of Bishop John Keenan and Father Stephen Baillie, Michael and Jill received a papal blessing on their big day.

They were met by a round of applause when they were presented as Mr and Mrs Hepburn on the altar and walked through a hail of confetti when they left the church.

A further 90 guests, including Bishop John, helped the newlyweds celebrate at their reception at Port Glasgow Town Hall, where they danced into the wee small hours.
