FAMILIES hoped their tots caught the book bug at fun sessions at Gourock Library.

Mums and dads queued up to take wee ones along to the popular activity using rhymes, actions and sing-a-longs.

The fun get-together is running across Inverclyde Libraries as part of its extensive summer programme.

Helen Imponenti, branch library supervisor, said: "Bookbug is good for new mums to come along and meet other mums and other families.

"It's so good for the wee ones social development and it also gets them used to coming into the library."

Parents can sign up to the Bookbug Borrowers Club where they can take home books every week and return them the following week.

Groups enjoy an opening Hello song with actions that even the youngest members can remember and helps with their sounds.

Helen said: "It's amazing how quickly they all pick up the songs, and start tapping their knees, knowing that the session is starting."

She added that this was just one of many events running this summer.

This includes the Marvellous Makers Summer Reading Challenge for youngsters where they are encouraged to read six books over the holidays and receive a certificate and medal.

There is also an adult challenge and a host of other activities including Lego, 'crafternoons' and board games.

Others have to be booked such as making mini booklets, 3D printing, story sack and making comics.
