BRAZEN fly-tippers dumped unwanted household rubbish in a Greenock street for THREE days in a row - after repeated clean-ups.

Kenilworth Crescent has once again been targeted by waste louts who are intent on using it as dumping ground.

Fed up housing staff at River Clyde Homes - who have stepped in to clean it up after complaints from tenants have hit out at the illegal dumping - slammed those responsible.

Inverclyde's largest social landlord has branded the behaviour 'selfish' and also warned that it has serious health hazards for residents living nearby.

And they have warned it means that vital resources are being wasted cleaning it up all.

A River Clyde Homes spokesperson said: "This selfish behaviour not only spoils the environment for residents, but also creates an unnecessary financial burden as the high cost of clearing this dumped rubbish falls on River Clyde Homes, resources that could be better directed towards improving the lives of our tenants and communities.

"Kenilworth Crescent has been continually marred by fly-tipping, forcing River Clyde Homes contractors Home Fix Scotland to take action for two mornings in a row.

"Irresponsible individuals have chosen to illegally dump their waste, leaving behind the unsightly mess, and despite clearing the site more waste was discarded the following day."

River Clyde Homes stepped in to clean up the mess after receiving reports of the tonnes of rubbish dumped at Kenilworth Crescent.

They sent out a team three days in a row.

The Tele has reported concerns about fly tipping in Kenilworth Cresecent on a number of occasions.

River Clyde Homes also warned fly-tipping can pose health hazards as well.

The spokesman added: "The dumped materials attracts vermin, creates a breeding ground for disease, and release harmful toxins into the environment."

They are now calling for action locally to stamp out the illegal dumping.

The housing association said: "It's a stark reminder of the importance of responsible waste disposal and the need for residents to work together to keep their neighbourhoods clean.

"The illegal dumping of waste is much worse than an eyesore - it poisons our environment. Toxic materials can leak into soil and waterways, harming wildlife and potentially entering our drinking water. Even common trash can block drains and cause flooding.

"Cleaning it up falls on taxpayers and tenants, taking money away from vital services. Fly-tipping blights communities, bringing down property values and discouraging tourism. It's a lazy act with serious consequences.

River Clyde homes is encourging anyone witnessing fly tipping occurring to report it immediately to the police by calling 101, or to Inverclyde Council via their dedicated webpage at www.inverclyde.gov.uk/environment/rubbish-litter/illegal-dumping."
