A PORT Glasgow assault accused has had the charge against him dropped after a witness failed to attend court.
Darren Wright was charged with assault a man on Carwood Street in Greenock on February 26, 2021.
He was alleged to have punched the man on the head and pushed him on the body causing him to fall against a wall.
Mr Wright, 40, was due to stand trial at Greenock Sheriff Court on Thursday.
The court heard that the witness was not in attendance, despite having been cited.
Defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher objected to the case being adjourned, noting that almost three and a half years had passed since the alleged incident.
Sheriff Pettigrew told Mr Wright: “Like you, I’m not prepare to waste any more time on this case.”
The case was deserted simplicter – meaning the matter cannot be re-raised.
