HAVING fun was childsplay for youngsters at a super summer Inverclyde playscheme.

There was a bumper number of 53 kids at the session at Kilmacolm Primary on Tuesday.

Robert Darroch, leader in charge, said: "It's been great, this is the largest group we have had today, normally we have 30.

"We are happy, it's been a really happy experience.

"The kids love it, we try to organise different activities, we're having a water fight and and a bake sale, we try to make it as child-led as possible.

"We've been on nature walks around the school and have been playing football and rounders on the outside pitch.

"We like to give the kids a bit of variety. We have a chat with them every morning when they come in and ask them what they want to do."

Robert, who is studying to be a nursery teacher, said: "They are a lovely bunch of kids, they're really nice."

On the first day, he brought them in and split them into teams with children they didn't know, so they could make new friends.

Robert said: "It's worked really well, they are mixing well and have made new friends and have a good vibe with other children."

Sessions run from 9.30am to 12.30pm in and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm in the afternoon.

The free camps are funded by Inverclyde Council and run by Inverclyde Leisure.
