A GREENOCK man is set to face a jury trial next month charged with an alleged firearms offence.
Thomas Brown is accused of being in possession of pepper spray at his home on John Street on June 14, 2021.
The charge alleges he had a ‘prohibited weapon’ in the form of a cannister ‘designed or adapted for the discharge of a noxious liquid, gas or thing’.
Prosecutors say the cannister contained capsaicin – a chemical irritant which causes a burning sensation if it comes into contact with tissue.
Brown faces a further charge of failing to appear at a hearing a Greenock Sheriff Court on January 30 despite being given due notice.
He attended a first diet hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday and is due to return for trial on August 19.
