BOSSES at Morton have described incidents which took place at last night's cup clash with Brechin City as 'wholly unacceptable'.

A series of events occurred at the Premier Sports Cup Group F match at Cappielow which directed attention away from the game itself.

Morton general manager Dale Pryde-MacDonald issued a statement condemning the incidents and said some of them are 'illegal offences'.

Fans expressed their disgust at the events on the club forum and videos have been shared on social media.

Mr Pryde-MacDonald has assured fans that the club will act on the incidents.

He added: "It is important to reinforce that some of the events that took place last night are illegal offences and will come with punishments beyond club level.

"Led by myself and our safety team here at the club, we have reviewed the footage from last night's match on our CCTV system, heard witness reports, and liaised with our stewarding company.

"This will now lead to action against those who committed the offences."

Morton defeated Brechin City 1-0 in the match thanks to a goal from Cammy Ballantyne.

Mr Pryde-MacDonald said the events were 'not reflective' of Greenock Morton Football Club or the majority of the club's supporters.

He added: "The small minority does not and will not reflect the larger proportion of our terrific fanbase.

"It's clear to see from the messages we've received since the match that our fanbase has an appetite to ensure Cappielow continues to be an inclusive, welcoming and positive environment for all, and wants to get rid of poor and unacceptable conduct."

Mr Pryde-MacDonald praised fans for their behaviour at grounds across Scotland.

He added: "I want to re-emphasise my support to the vast majority of our fanbase who behave exceptionally well in stadiums across the country, as well as in our own stadium, and make supporting Greenock Morton a positive, engaging and inclusive place for all."
