A COMIC workshop was a monster hit with creative kids.

The youngsters took part in Monster Making to create their own characters to star in a comic book.

There were some scary creatures such as a dragon bug but also friendly monsters who chased cars.

Paul Bristow, who is running the sessions in Inverclyde Libraries across the summer, said: "The kids have come up with some great ideas to create different creatures to use in a 'spooky' comic story in time for the Galoshans Festival.

"So once they've made their monsters we will work on the story, this week and next week, and they will have their own comic in time for Halloween."

Little Lucas Wordie, nine, said: "I've made a friendly monster, he's got two sets of big legs that connect in the middle and he chases cars along the road."

Campbell Morrison, seven, was working out the sounds for his monster.

He said: "My monster's not friendly, he's a big orange cat who hisses at people."

Campbell and his brother Fergus had also been taking part in other workshops in the library to make mini comics.

Fergus, ten, said: "I've made a dragon bug with a large stinger, huge claws, dragonfly wings, sharp teeth and horns on the top and bottom of his head.

"I enjoy drawing."

Paul said the group had been great and the children had fertile imaginations.

He added: "They've really engaged with the project and it's great to see what they see in their heads on paper.

"We have quite a few friendly monsters who are not too terrifying which is quite nice.

"The comic will be released online and there will be copies available in the library."

The project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
