A PORT minister took a hit as he is was pelted at family fun day.
Hundreds of people flocked to Port Glasgow New Parish Church fundraiser.
Organisers were delighted to raise more than £1,000 for church funds.
Minister William Boyle, said he was happy to be pelted with wet sponges for the greater good.
He quipped: "We had a lot of different activities, 'splat the minister with the sponge' was popular with the public.
"It was really, really packed and we had a good team of people who helped to arrange it, it was great to see a big turnout.
"It was free entry because we wanted everyone to come along.
"It was busy all day, we had animals in the car park from the Lamont Farm Project in Bishopton, a bouncy castle, from the Castle Company."
There were a variety of stalls, including schoolgirl Erin MacDonald who sold her homemade bracelets and raised £302 for the Church Angels Foodbank.
Meanwhile, campaigners Claire Potter and her daughter Skye raised £118 for Scottish Autism.
There were also refreshments and home baking, beat-the-goalie and face painting.
William said that the community always received amazing support for all its events.
He said: "I am the chaplain at the schools and shipyard, so people know me and kids were queuing up to hit me with a wet sponge.
"It's about keeping that connection right across the community.
"There is a really great community spirit in Port Glasgow."
The monies raised will help to support our play group, mental health and wellbeing group, and support other groups and daily activities."
