PEOPLE who are bonkers about ballroom, have a love of latin, and who are hyped up on hip-hop are being sought for a dynamic Inverclyde dance project.

The teams at arts companies Megahertz and FERAL are bringing STRUT: Inverclyde to Greenock and Port Glasgow for the first time in October as part of this year's Galoshans Festival.

Organisers are on the lookout for dancers of all ages across a wide range of styles to showcase their skills in spectacular parades around their communities.

Accompanied by dramatic lighting, catchy beats, and amazing projections, the dancers will encouraged people to join the STRUT processions.

Bex Anson, director of STRUT Megahertz Inverclyde, said she can't wait to meet local dancers.

She said: "You don't need to be professional - you just need to have a love of dance and be confident enough to come out and perform on the streets of Inverclyde.

"We want to bring an amazing diversity of dance styles and people together.

"It's all about people getting out on the streets to celebrate dance and celebrate local communities."

The first STRUT event will take place in Greenock on Thursday, October 17, and second will run in Port Glasgow on Friday, October 18.

A total of five local dancers will be selected to take part in the fun events.

The strutters will parade around the area showing off their particular dance styles, encouraging local residents to join them to form a procession.

They'll be accompanied by a soundsystem, and videos of their dancing will be projected onto nearby buildings.

Bex said the events will be a great way to bring communities together.

She added: "We'll be encouraging people to start following us and have a boogie with us.

"We could have everything from Northern Soul to happy hardcore and ballroom.

"Dancing helps people express their emotions and process their emotions.

"We're hoping to see a really diverse range of styles and people."

To get involved, dancers should send a video (maximum two minutes) to the STRUT team.

A total of 10 performers will be invited to a live audition, and a final five will be selected for the shows.

Little dance star Astyn Hannah, eight, has applied to be part of STRUT.

The youngster, who trains with Unity Dance Project, recently picked up two gongs at the Dance World Cup in Prague.

Astyn won gold in the jazz mini section and silver in acro mini.

Her mum Jackie McNelis said the youngster hopes she will be selected for STRUT.

Jackie said: "She loves dancing, it's her life.

"She trains six days a week and I never have to force her to go."

STRUT: Inverclyde will be delivered with the support of RIG Arts and is funded by Creative Scotland's touring fund for theatre and dance.

Videos should be emailed to info@m-hz.co.uk or sent via WhatsApp to 07721 853 915.

Applications will be accepted until August 2.
