STUDENTS at a Greenock theatre school got a taste of the West End as they welcomed a top stage actor to their summer camp.

The Theatre School of Scotland’s (TSOS) local branch hosted a four-day Six The Musical-themed camp at Songbird Studios, which was open to its own youngsters as well as others.

The students immersed themselves in the world of the hit show, which is a modern retelling of the lives of Henry VIII’s six wives.

On Tuesday, the budding performers were treated to a masterclass led by Christina Modestou – who originated the role of Anne Boleyn in 2017.

Christina – from Port Talbot in Wales – also features on the original cast recording of the musical, which was released the following year.

During her career, she has starred in shows such as We Will Rock You at London’s Dominion Theatre, The Winter’s Tale at the National Theatre and the UK tour of Shrek The Musical.

More recently, she played a number of iconic women from history in Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World – which enjoyed a run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022.

Reece Donnelly, TSOS principal and founder, said: “Our full ethos is about bringing prestigious performing opportunities to the kids of Greenock.

"They are Six obsessed down here. They asked for someone from Six and that’s what they got.

“It’s been amazing. The luxury is they all love Six, so Christina’s job has been very easy.

“These kind of camps teach them that there is real opportunities at the end of all this. Christina went to a stage school very similar to this.

“I think it just proves that it can and will happen if you put the hard work in.

"You can be on the West End, and you can be in Six.”

Christina taught the young performers a dance routine to the musical’s title track during her time in Greenock.

Throughout the week, the students prepared for a final performance which parents and carers were invited to watch.

Enrolment is now underway for TSOS’ Greenock branch ahead of its new term, which begins in mid-August.

A free open day will be held at Songbird Studios on August 4 from 12-4pm.
