THE iconic Waverley is set to sail again from Greenock on a 'one off' evening cruise to raise funds for her ongoing refurbishment.

This special sailing for the world famous paddle steamer is helping raise vital for the winter repair programme to keep her sea going.

She will leave Custom House Quay on Wednesday, July 31 to steam up Loch Long and Loch Goil to Lochgoilhead.

This year alone 75,000 passengers have boarded the world's last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer for summer cruises.

Allan Smith, Vice Chairman for the Scottish Branch of the Society, said: “It has been six years since Waverley last offered an evening cruise from Greenock to the Lochs, and I hope this sailing will prove popular again with locals and visitors alike.

"Thanks to those who have supported evening cruises in previous years the Society has been able to support several refurbishment projects including a new radar and improvements in the Dining Saloon.”

The Waverley’s 2024 summer season has already seen over 75,000 passenger journeys recorded aboard the much-admired steamship.

This year sees her carry the prestigious title as National Historic Ships UK Flagship of the Year in recognition of her expansive sailing programme in several areas of the UK. Allan commented further.

The vice chairman added: "This year also marks the 50th Anniversary since the ship was famously gifted to the society for £1.

"I am proud that the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society is once again able to offer support, and at the same time give local communities the chance to enjoy the stunning Clyde coast from a vantage point that can’t be had anywhere else."

In recognition of the sale of Waverley for £1 in 1974, all children are sailing  for just £1 in 2024.
