Maintenance work is being undertake on the iconic Waverley paddle steamer in Greenock today (July 22).

The vessel is off service at Greenock's Custom House Quay on a planned maintenance day, with repairs taking place on the exterior of the ship.

A Waverley Excursions spokesperson said: "We are taking advantage of this and carrying out some works on the vessel which will be completed later this afternoon."

Waverley is set to sail on Tuesday from Greenock at 10.20am for a cruise of Loch Fyne towards Ardrishaig.
