A MAN has appeared in court charged with assaulting a police officer in Greenock whist in possession of a blade.
Joseph Eardley, 20, is alleged to have seized hold of an on-duty constable on Bubbly Jock Brae on January 10 before attempting to throw him.
He faces a further charge of being in possession of a retractable blade in a public place.
Prosecutors say Eardley, of Moorfield Avenue in Port Glasgow, was later found with two class C drugs – bromazolam or clonazolam – at Clydebank Police Station.
He appeared on petition at a private hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court yesterday, where he made no plea through defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher.

The case was committed for further examination, with Eardley being granted bail in the meantime.
A date for the next calling of the case is yet to be confirmed.
