GREENOCK families got the chance to boogie on down at a much-loved community centre to celebrate the end of a very successful summer playscheme.

The team at Branchton organised a disco as a treat for everyone who attended this year's fun-packed programme over the last four weeks.

Chairperson Shelly McIlroy said this year's families playscheme was a great success with the highest daily attendance recorded as 177 people.

She said the team wanted to say a fun goodbye to everyone who has been part of the centre over the summer.

Shelly added: "The playscheme has been really well-attended and we wanted to celebrate with all of our families.

"The lowest number of people we had on a day was 60.

"We always meet so many lovely people at our playschemes and there have been a lot of new families this summer.

"People are always looking for somewhere to go.

"We wanted to do something a wee bit different so we created a proper disco atmosphere."

Music was provided by Anthony Spencer, also known as Anthony Spencer, and face painter Grace Halliday made sure all the disco divas and brilliant boppers looked the part.

All members of the family took to the dance floor in their neon outfits and enjoyed the top tunes.

Everyone got a free pair of sunglasses and tucked into hotdogs, chicken nuggets, juice, and sweeties.

Branchton Community Centre manager Willie Wilson said the playscheme and the disco was completely funded by the centre itself.

The team also run a playscheme and youth club which is partly funded by Inverclyde Council.

He said: "The disco was a great way for us to celebrate all the families we've met over the summer.

"The playscheme was a great success."

Branchton will close on Friday for refurbishment, reopening on August 19.

The centre received £20,000 from the National Lottery which will help fund repainting and reflooring.
