STAFF at a Greenock care home have been praised for driving improvement and delivering success in a glowing inspection report for the local service.
Meallmore-operated Kincaid House was visited by Care Inspectorate officials at the end of June when around 90 residents were living at the Oakfield Terrace home.
A report on their findings said that ‘skilled and knowledgeable’ staff engaged with residents and their families ‘in a meaningful, friendly and sensitive manner’, and inspectors found that people's health and wellbeing had improved since moving to the facility.
Inspectors also praised the ‘strong and supportive’ management team as the home was awarded three ‘very good’ ratings and two ‘good’ grades.
Feedback from residents and their relatives included comments such as ‘Staff are magic’ and ‘Staff don’t just care for my mum, they care about her’.
The inspection report said: “Staff told us that they felt listened to, respected and included.
“People we spoke with told us that managers were very visible and supportive.
“During our visit we heard about the ongoing partnership working with the local authority to engage with improvement projects such as palliative care and positive behaviour support.
“This demonstrated the investment and commitment of the service to improve the quality of life and outcomes for people.”
Inspectors also noted that the service adopted a ‘proactive approach’ to ensure staffing arrangements were right to keep people safe, ensuring a ‘good mix of experience and knowledge’.
Describing the home as ‘bright, fresh and clean throughout’, inspectors said the setting, together with a range of community events it hosted, contributed to a ‘positive and welcoming atmosphere’ for those living in and visiting Kincaid House.
Celebrating the results at a fun day earlier this month, Kincaid House’s manager, Anne Gardner, told the Telegraph that she and her deputy manager Alison Bradley were immensely proud of their team.
She said: “Meallmore’s motto is ‘It’s a great place to live and it’s a great place to work’, and that’s exactly what Kincaid is.”
Anne added: “We’re a new management team, myself and Alison, and we’ve been working flat out to help.
“The general feeling of the home for everyone, all the staff, is excellent.
“We know that we’re all striving to be the best and push forward.
“Getting something like this makes all the blood, sweat and tears worth it.”
