A GREENOCK man has been fined and banned from driving after he got behind the wheel of a car while six times the alcohol limit.
David Greer, 54, drove a Nissan Qashqai at Gallagher Shopping Park in Port Glasgow on May 1 while the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 142 micrograms per 100 millilitres.
The legal limit for alcohol is 22 micrograms.
Defence solicitor Paul Cook said: “He accepts that his offending was unacceptable.
“He notes in the report that he is ashamed of his actions.”
Sheriff James Varney told the first offender: “I’m prepared to accept that this was a one off and a significant error on your part.”
Greer was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of 14 months.
He was also ordered to pay a fine of £1,000.
