A SERIES of gigs which showcase Inverclyde's upcoming indie bands is back at the Beacon after the first show proved to be a sell-out success.

Indie Inverclyde, a new music initiative by the Beacon Arts Centre, launched in July with a performance from local indie hero I Am David Laing.

The series is aimed at giving local musicians a chance to develop and grow their fanbases by providing them with a professional performance venue right on their doorstep.

The Indie Inverclyde series is designed to give the area's bands a venue to play at beyond local pubs and aims to nurture talent locally in the process.

The next show is due to take place on Saturday, August 3 at 7pm, with local band Peached headlining.

Tickets are priced at £10 and those attending must be aged 14 or over.

The idea was devised by the Beacon’s co-director, Lesley Davidson, who is a keen music fan with a particular passion for indie music from the late 1970s and early 1980s.

After the success of the opening gig, which sold out, Peached will be the next headliners.

More Indie Inverclyde gigs are already in the calendar at the Beacon, with SLIX due to headline on Saturday, September 14, followed by Bride on Friday, October 18.

To put on the gigs, the Beacon is remodelling its studio space to accommodate a standing audience of music fans, something it has never done before.

Lesley Davidson, co-director of Beacon Arts Centre, said: “The first Indie Inverclyde gig was a huge success, and we were delighted that it sold out, demonstrating that there is great demand to see local bands playing live.

“After I Am David Laing’s brilliant show, we can’t wait to see people’s reaction to Peached, who have a very different sound and might just blow the Beacon’s roof off.

“Inverclyde has a strong music community and local artists living here have the passion and talent to succeed, but very few options when it comes to places to play.

“Indie Inverclyde is our answer to this problem, and we hope to put on more sellout shows in the months to come.”

The next Indie Inverclyde show is due to take place on Saturday, August 3 at 7pm, with local band Peached headlining.

Tickets are priced at £10 and those attending must be aged 14 or over.
