AN Inverclyde dance school are celebrating 'double' success after they dominated on the world stage.

Unity Dance Project based in Greenock had a record-breaking five girls competing solo in the Dance World Cup in Prague, coming home with a haul of gold, silver, and bronze.

But the success didn't stop there as the dance school, run by sisters Lauren and Kerri Hair, went on to bring  an incredible 27 championship titles home from the World Lyrical Dance Federation Scottish Championships as well.

And they are set to bring the curtains down on a ground-breaking year with as a spectacular summer show.

Dance teacher Kerri Hari said: "It really was an incredible achievement to take so many girls to the Dance World Cup and to bring home medals.

"We were hoping for a tenth place, but that was beyond anything we could imagine.

"The girls all worked so hard and we are so proud of them."

Eight-year-old Unity star Astyn-Lily Hannah lit up the Dance World Cup in Prague winning gold for her jazz and silver for Acro, which combines classical dance techniques with acrobatic elements. She also finished in 7th place for contemporary.

Astyn,  from Port Glasgow, said: "I was so happy to win the medals, it was great to go to the World Cup. I just love to dance all the time."

It was pinnacle for Team Unity as they competed against the very best in their age groups from 56 countries in the Czech Republic capital in June.

Astyn was joined in Prague by fellow dancer Lauren Buchan, aged 11, who won bronze in her age group for Acro.

Ten-year-old Sara Casement finished seventh for Acro and 10th for contemporary.

Unity dancers Amelia McDermid and Myah Weston also qualified to compete solo in the Dance World Cup.

Organiser Christine Hair, who is Lauren and Kerri's mum, said: "This was the just an incredible achievement, it is so difficult to get dancers to the World Cup."

Talented young dancer Megan Sweeney, aged 14, also qualified for the flagship World Cup Dance but unfortunately she dislocated her knee and was unable to compete. 

But instead she led Unity to a fantastic Scottish Championships as they came back with 27 titles.

She finished with the Elite Lyrical, Advanced Acro and Advanced Jazz.

There was success on the dance floor throughout the event especially for Imogen Docherty, aged eight, who won the Super Star title, a section for dancers with additional support needs.
