THE former chief executive of Gourock-based CalMac has been appointed to a senior role at McGill’s Group as the firm seeks to strengthen its leadership team.
Robbie Drummond has joined the Greenock-based company as finance directory and company secretary following his departure from the ferry operator earlier this year.
The Chartered Accountant stepped down from the position in April after six years in charge, with CalMac saying the move followed a review of its executive leadership as it faced ‘challenging years ahead’.
Mr Drummond is one of several new appointments made at the UK’s largest independent bus operator, with current CEO Ralph Roberts taking on the role of chairman.
He assumes the role from co-owner James Easdale, who will remain as a director alongside brother Sandy.
Tony Williamson, who has a wealth of experience in public transport after almost 40 years in the sector, will serve as the company’s new CEO.
Over the last decade, Tony has worked in Asia and South America having previously spent 17 years with Arriva Group.
Following his appointment, Mr Drummond said: “The bus industry is facing change and McGill’s wants to continue working with local partners to ensure the highest quality provision for passengers.
“I know from my time in the transport sector that McGill’s has invested heavily to grow from a regional business to become a major operator in the UK and I look forward to working with the owners, Ralph, Tony and the senior team to enable best performance, deliver strong governance and ensure future success for the years ahead.”
James Easdale added: “This is a significant strengthening of our team and one that we have committed fresh resources to in order to attract Tony and Robbie to the business.
“We now have a wider leadership group and Ralph is looking forward to devoting more time towards our growth plans as chairman, and as I move away from that role, it will allow me flexibility in addressing key projects within the McGill’s business and within my wider family investments alongside my brother Sandy.”
