A TALENTED team of Inverclyde musicians have 'banded' together to create their own 'song of the summer'.

Gourock DJ Bruce Glenny and duo The Laurettes have collaborated on the remix of ‘Mainstage’, fusing the band's folk style with Bruce’s high-energy dance beats.

The Inverclyde artists took to the Tartan Heart festival stage at Belladrum to play the track together for the first time, in front of a crowd of more than 5,000 people, ahead of its release in August.

Bruce first played the track in July at the TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow.

He said: “Playing it as part of my TRNSMT set was phenomenal, but then to play it with The Laurettes live for the first time at Belladrum was on a different level.

“Being on stage with a full band felt amazing, and the crowd was unbelievable, with everyone jumping up and down.”

Belladrum festival will not be the only time the song is performed live, as the acts are getting together for a release party at Montieths in Gourock on Friday, August 16, which they are expecting will be a sold-out show.

This collaboration has been a long time coming, with the mix taking around seven months to put together with over 30 different versions made.

The Laurettes said that getting a ‘GBX style’ remix of one of their songs was "always part of the vision".

They said: “We knew there was no better song for him to mix than ‘Mainstage’ as it’s our song of the summer and the title track from our album.

"Bruce came in at the right time and turned it into a banger, just in time for festival season.

“We always said it would sound good with a banging beat behind it.”

Bruce, a finalist in the rising star category of this year’s Chamber of Commerce, awards said: “I saw the potential to mix it right away. The track had an amazing hook.

“The reaction the band and I got from just developing and playing the track in our flats and the studio was class.

"We instantly knew other people’s reaction would be brilliant.”

Both acts are passionate about getting local artists heard, and decided there was no better way to do so than to team up.

Lynette Beaton from The Laurettes said: “We always want to show off the incredible talent that Inverclyde artists have to offer and this collaboration was just another way to do that.

“It's always about getting as many people involved as we can.

“It is nice to get to that next level of performing and be able to take other local artists with us as well.”

The artists say the collaboration won't stop here as they plan to work on an original song soon.

Bruce said: “I love collaborating because you get a different feel for what people do and to see how other musicians work.

"The girls are super talented. When you watch them perform, they put on some show.”

Pre-orders for the Bruce Glenny remix of Mainstage will be available from August 2 ahead of its release date on August 9, when it will be available to download on all music streaming platforms.

Bruce and The Laurettes will team up again for anoher live performance at the Ardgowan Distillery's open day on September 7.
