A PERSON reportedly attempting to harm swans near Greenock's Thom Street Dam sparked a police response earlier this week. 

Police Scotland has confirmed that they received a report of an individual trying to hurt animals near Murdieston Street on Tuesday, July 30 at around 2:30pm.

Officers attended the scene but found no trace of anyone or of any harm to swans. 

The Cowdenknowes Residents Association, which covers the surrounding area, issued a statement on social media describing the incident as 'upsetting' and urged anyone concerned about behaviour they had witnessed to contact the police. 

They said: "On Tuesday 30th July just after 2.15pm at the Thom Street Dam an upsetting incident happened with the wildlife.

"The police have been informed and are following up on information and sightings from the public.

"If you are concerned about any behaviours that you witness round any of the dams - please call the police."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2:30pm on Tuesday, July 30, we received a report of a person trying to harm swans near Murdieston Street in Greenock.

“Officers attended but there was no trace of anyone or any harm to swans.”
