GIRLS are having fun this summer at football camps run by Morton in the Community.

The trust has teamed up with the SFA and sponsors Scottish Gas to run the week long event.

Head coach Shaun Macdonald and his team have been busy putting hundreds of youngsters through their paces throughout the holidays.

At Clydeview Academy the girls took to the pitch to showcase their talents and learn more about the game at the girls only camp.

Shaun said: "It is great to see all the girls coming along. The camps are free of charge and they have had an amazing week.

"We have been doing some warm ups, learning skills and then playing some games."

The summer camps for girls have been open to ten to 14 year olds with a chance to work on skills.

The Morton in the Community Trust has been giving young people the opportunity to play football for the last ten years.

One of those signing up is Zara Walker, who has been coming along to the camp and plays upfront for Morton's under 14s.

The 11-year-old said: "I have been coming along to Morton to play football since I was 18 months old. I love it, is the only sport I really play. I am looking forward to getting involved in the Scottish Schools when I go to high school.

"The girls game keeps getting better and better. I love taking part."

The girls camp is also part of another initiative run by the SFA to give as many children from all backgrounds the chance to play.

Modern apprentice Aidan Crawford is one of the coaching team helping to run the summer camps.

He said: "It is great to see so many girls out here playing football. We have some great young players and they seem to be having fun, which is the most important thing."
