A BBC documentary has given viewers an insight into the day-to-day running of CalMac from the operator’s Gourock headquarters, as well as the challenges faced by those attempting to deliver Ferguson Marine's two long-awaited vessels.

The latest episode of Island Crossings, which aired on Sunday night, featured staff from the local office – including port assistant Karly Cameron and network resilience manager Tommy Gore.

Port Glasgow’s Ferguson Marine also appeared in the episode, which was filmed in late 2023, with former chief executive David Tydeman discussing some of the difficulties faced in the delivery of Glen Sannox and Glen Rosa.

The show later featured insight from plater Alex Logan – who has discussed his hopes for a ‘bright future’ the shipyard's apprentices beginning their career in the industry.

The new episode also heard from Wemyss Bay musician Chloe Matharu, who works as policy and document manager at CalMac.
