Numerous pupils across Inverclyde have seen their anxious wait for exam results extended this morning after blank emails were received.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) says it is has now resolved a problem which has left many students waiting longer than expected for their grades.

While certificates will be posted to all 145,000 candidates across Scotland today, pupils also had the option to sign up for a text message or email confirming their results.

These were due to be sent from 8am today, but not all who signed up have received theirs.

Notre Dame High School pupil Liam Connolly, 17, was still awaiting confirmation of his Advanced Higher grades at 11am.

Mum Caroline Connolly told the Tele: “My son wasn’t too happy when he got up to find no text, and the email that was sent was a blank page.

“It’s obviously a big error on their part. A shambles to put it lightly.

“He now has to wait on the postie, which is usually lunch time.”

In a statement, the SQA said: “We have now resolved a technical issue that impacted candidates who signed up to receive their results by email only using the MySQA service.

"Texts were not impacted and the vast majority of learners who signed up to MySQA received their results as expected.

"We apologise for any concern caused to learners who experienced a delay before receiving their MySQA email with their results attached."
