INVERCLYDE’S MSP has congratulated pupils in the area who received their exam results yesterday - and has urged those in need of support to reach out for advice.
Almost 1,900 local candidates were informed of their National, Higher and Advanced Higher grades on Tuesday, August 6.
The Scottish Qualifications Authority delivered results to around 145,000 youngsters nationwide, with a record number of 31,220 Scottish students now headed for university in September.
This includes a 12 per cent increase in the number of students from more deprived areas.
MSP Stuart McMillan said the pupils’ achievements were ‘a testament to the hard work and dedication’ they have put into their education.

He added: “This group of young people have had a difficult educational journey due to the pandemic, so they should be extremely proud of their achievements.
“It is hugely encouraging to see a record number of young Scots also going to university, especially a record number from deprived communities, demonstrating the progress the SNP Government is making towards widening access to higher education.
“I would also like to encourage any young person who is unsure of what their results mean for their future to get in touch with the fantastic support offered by Skills Development Scotland, who will be able to provide advice on finding jobs and understanding higher education opportunities.”
