THE top team at Cardwell Garden Centre are encouraging keen horticulturalists to get involved in this year's gardening competition with a blooming great homage to a well-known British film.

Outdoor expert Cheryl Akers has recreated the cue cards scene from Love Actually to raise awareness of Gardenfest 2024.

Cheryl is filmed throwing the cards away in turn as each message is unveiled.

The fun video echoes the scene in the Richard Curtis movie where Andrew Lincoln stands on a doorstep and flips through cue cards to reveal how much he loves Keira Knightley's character.

Cardwell director Kieran Gallagher said: "We thought we'd have a bit of fun with the video telling gardeners there’s still time to enter Gardenfest.

"We’ve had some good entries so far, but I know there are more fabulous gardens out there and the people who have put so much work into their hobby deserve to get some recognition.

"It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a seasoned expert, we want to see photos of your garden."

This year's Gardenfest is giving horticulturalists the chance to enter across categories including best community garden; best wildlife friendly/wildflower garden; best planted containers, best hanging baskets; and best young gardener; best overall garden; and best newcomer gardener.

The winners of each category will receive a £50 voucher for the centre, a trophy engraved with their name, and a certificate.

The contest is open to customers of Cardwell Garden Centre from across the west of Scotland, and gardeners can enter as many categories as they wish.

Entry photographs should be emailed to cardwellgardenfest@gmail.com, posted to Gardenfest, Cardwell Garden Centre, Lunderston Bay, By Gourock, PA19 1BB, or handed into the centre.

Entrants should include their name, postal address, email and phone contact details.

The competition closes on Friday, August 30.
