SUPER sports stars from all over Inverclyde put in an Olympic effort at a fun event in the sunshine at Battery Park in Greenock.

Inverclyde Council and Your Voice teamed up to run a family sports day to encourage people of all ages to get out and about in the good weather.

The active afternoon saw youngsters and their families take part in traditional sports day events like the ever-popular egg and spoon race.

Participants got the chance to complete a tricky assault course, and people were going round in circles trying out the hula hoop.

Youngsters were presented with medals and prizes to congratulate them for their efforts.

Gaynor Lochhead, New Scots project co-ordinator and connector at Your Voice, said the day was aimed at encouraging people to make the most of the sunshine in the last two weeks of the school summer holidays.

She said: "We just wanted to join together to offer a day of free sporting fun for families.

"We've had a lot of youngsters here and really want to get the adults involved as well!

Gaynor said she hoped to see members of Inverclyde's New Scots community showing off their skills on the park too.

She added: "We want to see cross-cultural integration, with people from different cultures enjoying these activities together."

He added: "This was a great opportunity for Inverclyde Council and Your Voice to host activities for the community of Inverclyde.

"It's about encouraging people to get out and about and be active."
