AN award-winning pub in Kilmacolm has made the difficult decision to close its doors with immediate effect.

The owners of Carriages said in a statement that they were closing the popular establishment due to 'current trading conditions'.

The pub, formerly known as the Pullman Tavern, was bought over by husband and wife duo Karen and Graeme Finnie in 2019.

Karen took over the running of Carriages in June 2020 after the pub's tenant told her and her husband they could no longer run the establishment.

Under the couple's ownership the venue was revamped into a successful pub which was named Scotland's Gastro Pub of the Year at the 2022 edition of the Food Awards Scotland, before winning 'best outdoor area' at the Scottish Licensed Trade News awards in 2023.

In a statement, the pub's owners paid tribute to their staff and thanked their customers as they confirmed the closure.

They said: "It is with immense regret that we have to announce the closure of Carriages.

"The decision to close the venue with immediate effect has not been made lightly but we consider it to be the most sensible course of action, given current trading conditions.

"We would firstly like to thank all of our great staff, many of whom will be continuing to work for us at the Fox & Hounds.

"They have been a great crew to work with and, whatever happens, we wish them all of the very best for the future.

"However, our biggest thank you must go to all of our loyal customers.

"You have supported us through some very challenging times over the last five years. It has been a pleasure serving you all."

Carriages' owners also run the Fox and Hounds pub in Houston, which they say will not be affected by the sudden closure of Carriages.

They have pledged to honour any gift tokens and points cards held by Carriages customers at the Fox and Hounds.
