EVERY day is a school day for nearly 50 newly qualified teachers who are heading back to the classroom to begin their careers.

Inverclyde Council has welcomed 45 probationers into the local education service.

The new recruits are made up of 33 primary and 12 secondary teachers, all of whom have joined the ranks ahead of the start of the 2024/25 term this Friday.

They took part in an induction event at Inverclyde Academy on August 13, when they were given a warm welcome by education bosses and Councillor Francesca Brennan, Inverclyde Council’s vice-convener of education.

Cllr Brennan, who is also a teacher and who completed her own probationary year locally, said: “Congratulations to all our newly-qualified teachers on reaching this important point in their teaching careers.

“Speaking from experience, the hard work begins now. But I know that with the training and experience they have gained up to this point, and with the support of the dedicated and knowledgeable staff across our schools, they will have the best possible start to their teaching careers.

“I wish each and every one of our probationers the very best of luck for the new team and, more importantly, enjoy the experience.”

At the induction event, the focus was on emphasising the importance of teamwork and for newly qualified teachers to work with each other, for them to work as a team with colleagues in schools, and to develop the skills of working as a team with their children and young people.

The session was led by the council’s Active Schools team, which is jointly funded by sportscotland.

Staff will head to the classroom tomorrow, August 14, for two in-service days before pupils start the new term on Friday.
